PROTOCOL::FILTERS

Avoid Filters and Negative Signals

The truth about tweets that "disappear": from Pre-scoring thresholds to Safety Filtering.

01 // ARCHITECTURE

Layered Filtering Mechanism

In X's Home Mixer, filtering happens at multiple stages. If your content triggers a filter, it won't even get a chance to be ranked.

Pre-Scoring Filters

Eliminates duplicate IDs, stale tweets, and content from blocked or muted accounts before ranking begins.

Post-Selection Filters

The final safety net (Visibility Filtering - VF). Targets spam, violent content, or repetitive entries.

02 // SIGNALS

What Causes "Shadow" Downranking?

KEYWORD MATCH

Your content contains terms that users have added to their "Muted Keywords" list.

SOCIAL PROOF

If users with similar interests have blocked you, the system assumes you are irrelevant to the current reader.

REPETITION

The RetweetDeduplicationFilter will strip away duplicate reposts to keep the feed clean.

03 // SAFETY

Visibility Filtering (VF)

This is the strictest layer. VFFilter evaluates content based on safety policies (Spam, Violence, Hate Speech).

The Throttling Effect

Once an account is flagged for safety violations, its reach is severely throttled via "Shadow Filtering"—content remains visible on your profile but is removed from the For You feed.
